Curtis Bachan has been employed in the theatre arts industry as a Lighting Designer and Technical Coordinator for over 25 years. As a practitioner of the performing arts, he worked alongside some of the country’s world renowned and respected directors, actors and choreographers such as, Davlin Thomas, Bernadette Laughlin-Scott, Rawle Gibbons, Dave Williams and the late Godfrey Sealy to name a few.

In 1999, Trinidad and Tobago hosted the Miss Universe Pageant at the Chaguaramas Convention Center. Excited by this prospect, Curtis sought out the the lighting designer associated with the project. “If I could just get to work a follow spot for this show it would be amazing” Curtis recalled. After a few emails and an eventual in person meeting with key personnel of the Miss Universe technical team, Curtis secured a contract for his company, Lightworks, which provided lighting technicians who worked for the pageant under international lighting designer, Greg Brunton.

As an executive member of the National Drama Association of Trinidad and Tobago (NDATT) Curtis coordinated the First Caribbean Theatre Festival in Trinidad. He also worked as the Assistant Production Manager for the opera ‘Madam Butterfly’ at the 2006 Princeton Summer Festival, New Jersey, U S A.

In 2009 Curtis was employed as the Lighting Designer for ‘Dance Me Lover’, the first command performance of the National Theatre Arts Company at the National Academy of the Performing Arts (NAPA), Port of Spain. In 2014, he coordinated the Arts PUSH program on behalf of Queen’s Hall, with the Tobago House of Assembly, Culture Division.

For Carnival 2022, Mr. Bachan was both Lighting Designer and Technical Coordinator for the National Carnival Commission (NCC) Dimanche Gras Show ‘Déjà vu – Echoes of a Carnival Coming’ at the Queen’s Park Savanah under the direction of Mr. Davlin Thomas.

In 2018, after sixteen years as Technical Coordinator at Queen’s Hall, Curtis left the public service and has since been self-employed. Recently, Mr. Bachan graduated with a Second-Class Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts with a Minor in Film Studies from University of the West Indies.

Curtis is currently a Director at Trinidad and Tobago Business Etiquette and Protocol Specialists Limited (TTBEPS), a post which he held for over 10 years. He is currently the Chairman of the Board.
